Inspections
Visual Inspections: Perform initial visual checks for any signs of damage, decay, defects, or danger to the pole or its attachments.
Sounding: Use a hammer to sound poles, listening for potential internal decay pockets or voids.
Boring: Drill into poles to collect wood shavings, assessing for internal defects.
Partial Excavation: Conduct below-ground checks on specific quadrants of the pole, involving boring and visual inspections.
Full Excavation: Perform the most rigorous inspection method by excavating the entire circumference of the pole, treating decayed wood, and applying necessary chemical treatments.
Remedial Treatments
Groundline Treatments: Apply chemical pastes or bandages below the groundline when decay is identified.
Fumigants: Administer internal fumigants to preserve pole health.
Internal Treatments: Apply various treatments to halt internal decay, treat insect attacks, and fill voids.
Additional Services
Joint Use Assessment: Maintain an accurate inventory of all pole attachments.
Overhead NESC Compliance: Ensure the system adheres to the National Electric Safety Code.
Pole Painting: Restore the aesthetic condition of decorative and traffic signal poles.
Storm Response: Be part of the rapid response team deployed after major storm events to assess and document pole conditions.
Third-Party Audits: Collaborate with external agencies for inspection audits.
Data Recording: Use a cell phone or tablet to record results of all inspections and maintenance activities.
Other Duties: As assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
At least 1 year of utility industry experience required; additional construction or related field experience a plus.
Comfortable using a cell phone or tablet for data entry.
Physically capable of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Willingness to walk several miles a day over various terrains.
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
Must pass a drug screen and background check.
Available to travel overnight and work from Monday through Friday.
