THOR Solutions is looking for a highly motivated Senior SolidWorks Drafter/Modeler to support the US Navy in Arlington, VA or remotely.
The candidate will assist in creation of SolidWorks models and shipyard production drawings for a United States Navy Small Craft/Boat.
Typical Responsibilities: 3D Modeling: Create complex 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks, accurately capturing all necessary design details and specifications.
CAD Design: Collaborate with engineers and designers to develop CAD models that meet project requirements, including structural, mechanical, and electrical components.
Technical Drawings: Generate precise technical drawings and documentation to communicate design intent, including dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
Design Optimization: Assist in the analysis and optimization of designs for manufacturing efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and performance improvements.
Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough reviews and quality checks of your own work to ensure accuracy and adherence to project standards.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, and project managers, to meet project goals and deadlines.
Problem Solving: Identify and resolve design issues and provide innovative solutions to design challenges.
Software Proficiency: Stay current with SolidWorks software updates and industry best practices to maintain a high level of proficiency.
Documentation: Maintain organized records of design files and documentation for future reference and revisions.
Location: Fully remote available.
An ideal candidate will be local to THOR offices in Arlington, VA or Virginia Beach, VA and able to support some onsite time.
Secret Security Clearance Eligibility Preferred: This position does not require an active security clearance, but an active DoD Secret security clearance or eligibility for a DoD Secret security clearance is highly preferred.
Typical Physical Requirements: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment.
May involve: repetitive motion.
Around 10% travel for visits to waterfront/shipboard environments.
May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.
g.
, confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.
Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High school diploma/GED equivalent.
Relevant Associate’s degree or vocational certifications/training is preferred.
At least eight (8) years of recent, relevant professional experience as a SolidWorks Modeler or similar role supporting Navy, Coast Guard, or shipyards.
Experience should include: Creating production and shop drawings in for shipbuilding Experience modeling for at least one of the following disciplines: mechanical / piping, electronics, and or structural/welding.
QA'ing / reviewing production and shop drawings.
Strong knowledge of CAD principles, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) Experience with DOD/NAVSEA contracts preferred.
Preferred Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP).
Proficiency in SolidWorks software, with a strong portfolio demonstrating 3D modeling and design skills.
Proficient with common productivity software such as the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat.
Excellent communication skills.
