Job Description:
Technical, hands on work in the Structures and Grounds Division of the Department of Public Works in the construction, repair and maintenance of town buildings and other structural facilities; all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school or technical school graduate with specific courses in building trades.
Five (5) years experience as a reliable, full-time carpenter, at least two (2) years of which have been at the equivalent of a journeyman level with finish carpentry skills; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Construction Supervisor’s license.
Class D driver’s license
Additional Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of the various types of materials, equipment tools, methods and techniques used in the construction, repair and maintenance of buildings and other types of structures.
Knowledge of local building codes and OSHA regulations.
Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications.
Ability to prepare cost estimates of material for routine repair projects.
Ability to supervise one or two employees and instruct them in the proper safe handling and efficient use of tools and materials.
Professional level of skill in the operation and use of equipment and tools used in the construction and repair of buildings.
