Job Summary:
The VP, Deputy General Counsel is an essential member of the Chief Legal Officer’s leadership team and is responsible for assisting the General Counsel in all functions of the Legal Department as may be requested.
The VP, Deputy General Counsel is primarily responsible for leading the team and providing day-to-day legal advice related to vendor contracting, clinical, information technology (IT), information security, privacy, intellectual property and trademark/copyright and management of the paralegals.
In pertinent part, the legal advice this position and team provide will help to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policy, Medicare and Medicaid.
Essential Functions:
Role Specific
Provide key strategic legal guidance and advice to senior leaders in topical area such as Clinical, Vendor Contracting, Information Technology, Information Security, Privacy, Real Estate, and Intellectual Property/Copyright/Trademark.
Work closely with Sourcing, Clinical, Privacy and IT leadership and teams to identify and reduce known and potential regulatory, legal and business risks.
Work closely with Clinical and Quality Management leadership and teams to manage legal risk associated with utilization management, care management, and quality management including regulatory, policy and procedure, and operational compliance.
Oversee and manage the paralegals supporting the OGC team.
Ensure appropriate use and development of paralegals.
General
Manage and mitigate legal risk through effective and proactive legal support across all business units, affiliates, and markets in assigned topical areas.
Provide secondary support for business development work and corporate transactions.
Independently assess, communicate, and mitigate risk while providing sound legal advice and counsel to all levels of leadership within the organization.
Influence strategic decision making at the highest levels of the organization, including the Executive Leadership Team.
Draft policies and procedures needed by CareSource to ensure business operations are compliant with internal and external requirements.
Supervise a team of attorneys who provides legal advice and support on a wide range of corporate matters for assigned senior leaders, topical areas, or business divisions.
Collaborate and establish trusting partnerships with internal and external stakeholders including business owners, business partners, and colleagues.
Manage and direct outside counsel and other legal support partners.
Help develop and manage other attorneys and non-attorney staff with the goal of ensuring a high performing and high functioning OGC team that is trusted and valued by the business.
Assist in the preparation of board materials, reports, and presentations.
Participate in management committees and workgroups as assigned.
Interact with management team as well as with external representatives of regulatory agencies, governmental entities and others.
Perform any other job duties as requested.
Education and Experience:
Completion of a Juris Doctorate degree program at an accredited college/university is required.
Minimum of ten (10) years health care experience in managed care and/or related health care industry is required.
Experience with Medicaid/Medicare regulations is required.
Demonstrated progressive leadership responsibilities required.
Demonstrated people management skills is required.
Demonstrated experience supporting senior leadership is required.

Licensure and Certification:
Must be a member in good standing of a State Bar
Current, unrestricted license to practice law is required
Working Conditions:
General office environment; may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
Compensation range $150,000-$300,000.
