net Overview: In collaboration with a dynamic international team, the Senior Legal and Policy Associate plays a key role in advancing Inclusive Development International's global casework and policy advocacy.
Reporting to the Legal and Policy Director, the Senior Legal and Policy Associate supports the regional teams in the full range of activities involved in IDI's case portfolio as needed, including activities requiring travel to the regions.
The Senior Legal and Policy Associate also contributes to policy advocacy and campaigns, including through policy research and analysis, preparing submissions, drafting publications and representing IDI in various coalition and advocacy forums.
Principle Responsibilities: Case work Working closely with the Legal and Policy Director and regional teams in Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America: Support community partners to develop and implement holistic advocacy strategies to defend their rights, including by accessing accountability and grievance redress processes; Draft or review letters to companies and other investment and supply chain actors on specific cases and engage with those actors; Support local partners to collect evidence of adverse human rights and environmental impacts; Support communities and local partners to prepare for and engage in accountability and grievance redress processes, including mediations and litigation; Draft and review complaints to non-judicial grievance mechanisms; Support the implementation and monitoring of remedial action plans or settlement/mediation agreements.
Contribute to IDI training activities and tools to strengthen the capabilities of local civil society partners to support communities to defend their rights and hold corporations, financial institutions and governments accountable for violations; Contribute to IDI's Follow the Money initiative by reviewing investment chain reports, conducting pressure point analysis and identifying viable advocacy opportunities and strategies.
Support the Legal and Policy Director in developing effective regional teams to manage the local aspects of IDI's case portfolio.
Policy Advocacy Working closely with the Legal and Policy Director and the Research and Communications teams: Contribute to the development of policy advocacy and campaign strategies to strengthen the human rights regulation and compliance of corporate and financial actors; Conduct policy research and analysis, incorporating lessons learned from casework; Draft and review policy submissions, articles and publications; Network and support IDI in cultivating strong collaborative relationships with coalition partners and other allies in civil society and the academic community; and Represent IDI in policy advocacy forums and civil society networking and strategy meetings.
Essential qualifications: An advanced degree in law or a related field.
At least seven years' work experience in the field of human rights, environmental justice, or corporate accountability.
Fluency in verbal and written English and professional proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese or French.
Other Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes: Excellent research, writing and advocacy skills, including the ability to write clear and compelling legal and policy arguments, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
Solid knowledge of international legal and policy frameworks related to business and human rights and corporate accountability.
Excellent interpersonal skills and comfortable engaging respectfully with civil society partners and communities and advocating with large corporations and financial institutions, including in a mediation setting.
Strong team player with the ability to work both autonomously and harmoniously and professionally as part of a team.

Compensation and Benefits: Inclusive Development International offers a competitive salary of $70,000 - $80,000 depending on experience.
The salary range is based on the employee being located in Washington, DC, and may be adjusted based on the Cost of Living factor in the location where the selected candidate is based, in accordance with IDI's Compensation Policy.
