Responsibilities
The Controller’s Office offers career ladders for many of our positions which allow tenured employees promotional opportunities within their job.
The successful candidate will be hired at the most appropriate level of Tax Analyst level I through IV, based on education and experience.
FSU is seeking a motivated remote tax analyst with experience in worker classification, scholarship and fellowship reporting, and taxable fringe benefit analysis who will cross-train and serve as the primary backup to the Tax Director on all tax-related matters.
This individual serve on a collaborative, collegial team that is responsible for ensuring the university’s compliance in matters related to its domestic and international tax obligations.
This position is responsible for performing professional analysis of tax programs and services.
Provides analysis functions relating to the taxation of payments made to and on behalf of students, employees, visitors, suppliers, and contractors as well as worker classification status.
Coordinates with business partners (Student Business Services, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Procurement, etc.
) to resolve taxation of payments.
Directly responsible for the preparation and filing of IRS Form 1099 series, 990T, and related workpapers.
Collects and analyzes sales tax data received from departments to prepare monthly sales tax returns.
Assists departments with understanding of and compliance in sales tax.
Researches and monitors multi-state sales activity to determine the point at which state and local registration thresholds are met.
Monitors and tracks departmental activity as it relates to all areas of tax to assist with review and analysis to determine potential areas of risk.
Researches and resolves basic inquiries and issues regarding tax reporting and filing.
Supports efforts to educate FSU departments on relevant tax policies and procedures to ensure compliance and reduce risk of exposure.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a similar field and two years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma or equivalent and experience equal to six years.
(Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.
) Candidates with a Bachelor's degree and additional years of related experience may be considered for Tax Analyst roles level II-IV.
Each level requires an additional two years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications Ability to demonstrate critical thinking based upon in-depth data, substantiating information, considering and respecting others’ input personal values, and ethics and provide multiple feasible solutions.
Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Ability to compile, review, and reconcile data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Knowledge of and the ability to research, interpret, and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
CPA preferred.
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field.
Previous tax experience relating to the taxation and reporting of payments made to and on behalf of students, employees, visitors, suppliers, and contractors as well as worker classification status in either higher education, public accounting, or a related industry.
Experience with preparation and filing of Florida sales tax returns.
Experience with preparation and filing of the IRS 1099 series returns.
Experience with preparation and filing of the IRS 990T return.

Anticipated Salary Range Commensurate with education and experience; minimum salary of $71,010.
